Minnie Holsinger, The Farmer's Wife 43, H.C. Murphy, Field and Stream Magazine

This is blog #43 of my on-going series sharing pages from the scrap book of Minnie Holsinger, which she compiled in the 30s and 40s while she and Grandpa Charlie were saving to buy a farm.

H.C. Murphy was born on 02-26-1886, died of cancer at age 45 in 1931. He is known primarily for his pulp magazine covers, but also did illustrations of outdoor sports for the magazine “Field and Stream”. I’m assuming this dour impasto scumble is one of those. (Actually, I’m reminded of Corot, the French pre-Impressionis.) Here’s a link to to Murphy’s bio on pulpartists.com
