This is my latest self-portrait, sketched in bed a couple of weeks ago. This is my reflection sketched in a glass covered box on the bookshelf across from the bed I share with my husband, Richard. I don’t even know what’s in the box (it belongs to Richard, and I couldn’t see within the box while I was doing the sketch, only my rather ghostly reflection there-on. I see this every night before I turn of my bed lamp. On September 12, I decided to sketch it.
My instrument of choice was a blue ball-point pen. BTW, a shout out to Emil Ferris and her incredible graphic novel, “My Favorite Thing is Mosters”. I bring it up because its a massive 386 page volume, rendered entirely in ball point pen. This latter aspect is relevant because, these days ball point pen is my sketching instrument of choice, and it was really inspiring to see Emil’s masterful renderings therewith. The story’s pretty cool too.
I haven’t been this impressed by a graphic novel since Craig Thompson’s “Blankets”.
