All Crime Comics #3, "Hat Trick", Pages 8&9, July 31, 2016

I'm posting (continuing over the next 14 days) scans of my original artwork for “All-Crime Comics #3, which was published by Art of Fiction Press in 2014. I’ll be posting my version of the color art alongside the black and white. The publisher decide not to use my coloring.
These are pages 8 and 9.

The story is entitled “Hat Trick”, and it is the third installment in a story continuing from “All Crime Comics” #1 and #2.
Panel 1 is meant to be a double page spread “pan” from an exterior shot of “The TerrorDome” to the interior of the skybox, where Dodger (modeled off Clive Owen), Carla (modeled off Diane Lane), Marko, (modeled off depictions of the character in All Crime #1 and #2), Tracy (modeled off the store mascot for Secret Headquarters in Burbank, California, USA where I get my weekly stash of comics), and Maddy (based off Christian Kane) watch the World Cup Soccer match between the Soviet/German and Whatever Team They’re Playing Against in this game.
Panel 2 is another double page pan across each character in turn as they comment on various aspects of their situation at this point in the narrative, hopefully being witty, entertaining and advancing the plot. The “Pan” ends on Maddy, freezing the action on the TV monitor to point out the Russian goalie he had interacted with in the dive bar the previous night.

Panels 3 through 4 take place in the Afrikan Ghetto, where we see that the Russian Goalie’s motorcycle has broken down. Maddy conveniently rides up, offers his recently acquired friend a ride. Off they go into the sunset. Needless to say, the goalie won’t be appearing in tomorrow’s game.

CHRISTMAS IN ALASKA, CARRIE PLAYS QUADIFY

My younger sister, Carrie, plays “Quaddify” with my off-sketch nephew (her son) Will as our mother, Maxine, watches in the background. Perhaps Maxine is in the game also. I wouldn’t be surprised.

HAT TRICK, PAGES 6 & 7 JULY 30, 2016

COUNT DOWN! Only 15 days to go until the August 14th San Fernando Valley Comic Book Convention. I’ll be sitting all day at an Artist’s table, selling copies of my published work, original artwork and commissioned sketches. In an attempt to generate interest in my upcoming appearance  I’ll be posting (continuing over the next 15 days) scans of my original artwork for “All-Crime Comics #3, which was published by Art of Fiction Press in 2014. I’ll be posting my version of the color art alongside the black and white. The publisher decide not to use my coloring. If you want to see the published version, come visit my booth at The San Fernando Valley Comic Book Convention in Granada Hills, on August 14, 2016 and see for yourself.

These are pages 6 and 7.
The story is entitled “Hat Trick”, and it is the third installment in a story continuing from “All Crime Comics” #1 and #2. In these pages, Tracy accompanies the Russian Soccer players back to their hotel room, promising them hot, probably underage sex. Since she’s a con-artists, she has them send out for room service which, which turns out to be her cohort-in-crime, Marko (also Russian). Needless to say, the Russian players won’t be making it to tomorrow’s match.

Christmas in August, William

For the next several days I'll be posting sketches from my Christmas vacation in Alaska. My then-finance', Richard, made the trip with me, his first trip to the frozen north. This was the first traveling I had done since my stroke back in April 2013.
This drawing is of my nephew William, who will be graduating from high school next May, I believe. He was engrossed in a game with other members of my family.

HAT TRICK, JULY 29, 2016

COUNT DOWN! Only 16 days to go until the August 14th San Fernando Valley Comic Book Convention. I’ll be sitting all day at an Artist’s table, selling copies of my published work, original artwork and commissioned sketches. In an attempt to generate interest in my upcoming appearance  I’ll be posting (continuing over the next 16 days) scans of my original artwork for “All-Crime Comics #3, which was published by Art of Fiction Press in 2014. I’ll be posting my version of the color art alongside the black and white. The publisher decide not to use my coloring. If you want to see the published version, come visit my booth at The San Fernando Valley Comic Book Convention in Granada Hills, on August 14, 2016 and see for yourself.
These are pages 4 and 5.

The story is entitled “Hat Trick”, and it is the third installment in a story continuing from “All Crime Comics” #1 and #2. HAT TRICK JULY 28, 2016

In an attempt to generate interest in my upcoming appearance at the San  Fernando Valley Comicbook Convention on August 16, 2016, I’ll be posting (starting today and over the next 16 days) scans of my original artwork for “All-Crime Comics #3, which was published by Art of Fiction Press in 2014. I’ll be posting my version of the color art alongside the black and white. The publisher decide not to use my coloring. If you want to see the published version, come visit my booth at The San Fernando Valley Comic Book Convention in Granada Hills, on August 16, 2016 and see for yourself.
These are pages 1, and a double page spread of pages 2 and 3.

The story is entitled “Hat Trick”, and it is the third installment in a story continuing from “All Crime Comics” #1 and #2. The narrative takes place in an alternate reality where Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia survived by merging into a single entity, hence the symbol that combines the swastika and the sickle. The main cast, re-introduced on page 1, are a team of grifters out to steal a lot of money at the World Cup Soccer match in “Afrika” (South Africa in our reality). Basically, their plan is to bet heavily against the Russian soccer team, then, through nefarious means, sabotage the Russians.

FLYING SUPER-SPECTACULAR

This drawing was influenced by Neal Adam’s art for the cover of DC 100 Page Super-Spectacular 13/Superman 252. I didn’t have the comic in front of my when doing this drawing. I’ll have to finish it at some point.

TINA'S WET DREAM

This drawing was commissioned by Jen Coyle when she was directing on Bob’s Burgers. It was meant to be an illustration by Tina  herself for one of her Erotic Fiction journal entries. It was tricky to try and draw badly (as a 13 year old would draw) yet make an attractive drawing at the same time. I don’t think it was used, the reason given being that the zombies were too threatening in their decomposition.

A RANDOM GATHERING

This is a doodle of a random group of people standing around. The woman striding toward camera looks like she has something on her mind. This was drawn with a felt tip pen. I drew in on January 25, 1995. After 21 years the ink is starting to spread into the back of the photocopy I sketch on.

DREAM ILLUSTRATION

I drew this in the morning of March 25, 1994. It's an image from a dream I'd just woken from. I write down the dream.

Female Soccer Players

This is a sketch from August 2013. Female soccer players. Drawn with ball point or possibly felt tip (we'll have to see how the ink spreads over time) pen.

RICHARD RAYNIS BACKGROUND DESIGNS FOR “KID VIDEO”(Part Two)

RICHARD RAYNIS BACKGROUND DESIGNS FOR “KID VIDEO”(Part Two)

These are a series of background designs done by Richard Raynis who you may know of as a producer on many TV series, most notably “The Simpsons” and “King of the Hill”.  He did these drawings for “Kid Video”, at DIC Entertainment, in 1984. I had just started a DIC as a freelance, then staff storyboarding artist, and was assigned to help Richard out on the series. This was early in my career, so I was very impressed with the skill and imagination of his drawings. I told Richard that he could be working at Disney (Feature; there was no Disney TV at this early date). I was nonplussed, even flabbergasted, when he informed me that he chose NOT to work at Disney, preferring the greater creative freedom that he had working for the notorious chop shop that was DIC. Luckily, or skillfully (or both) Richard was, if not in 1985 then in the next year or so, in charge of DIC’s prestige unit, helming season 1 of “The Real Ghostbusters”, “Alf”, and “AlfTails”, all of which I was proud to work on as a staff storyboard artist.

RICHARD RAYNIS BACKGROUND DESIGNS FOR “KID VIDEO”(Part One)

This is one of a series of background designs done by Richard Raynis who you may know of as a producer on many TV series, most notably “The Simpsons” and “King of the Hill”. He was one of the head honchos at Sony Animation back in the 90’s, possibly later. He did these background designs earlier in his career, in 1984 or ’85, for the TV series kid video. I’m starting with this pan BG layout. I’m including several cropped enlargements to focus on details I enjoy that might otherwise go
unnoticed.

STRIPPERELLA DESIGNS

I did these drawings in 2003 while employed as a staff storyboard artist on “Stripperella”, an animated TV series based off of Pamela Anderson. The concept for the character and her universe was contrived by Ms. Anderson and Stan (The Man) Lee. The series was produced by PopToons, a subsidiary of Nickelodeon set up precisely for the purpose of executing a soft-core porn animated cartoon series while not tarnishing the parent brand.

I must have had a window of down time from storyboarding, so my director, Kevin Altieri, had me do the Stripperella come-hither drawings for some print application (I forget what).

The drawing of the zaftig Stripperella must’ve  been done for my own amusement, as I still have the original. The drawings of Carrot Top, OJ Simpson and the pregnant lady must have been done as character layouts of the overseas animation studios.

A brief aside: Jill Thompson did character designs on the series; I belief she did the Carrot Top design I based my drawing on.
