THE MARK IN AMERICA, ISSUE #3, PAGE 23

The two circular insert panels give this page a retro feel. They were used frequently in the DC war books that I read only because I liked many of the artists (Russ Heath, Joe Kubert, John Severin primarily). I found the circular panels useful as a way of cramming more information onto the page while preserving an open feel. If the two panels had been square, the splash panel of the bus crashing through the wall of the terminal would have been a tight reversed “Z”, much more constrained and claustrophobic.

This is page 23 for "The Mark" issue 3, volume 2, otherwise known as "The Mark In America", published by Dark Horse Comics in February 1994. Written by Mike Barr, Drawn by Brad Rader.
