Head of the Day

This drawing is being donated to Oso-Oro 4, which will be auctioning it off on June 4 to raise money for aid to Japan. I was contacted by Ivan Velez Jr. whom y'all may remember for his seminal "Tales of the Closet" series that was released back in the '90's. This is your chance to own a Rader original.http://www.oso-oro.com/

Adam and Steve

Last night was the opening of the Comic Art Professional Society's group exhibition at the Screen Cartoonist's Guild 839 Gallery. I premiered my latest magnum opus (dei), “Adam and Steve”. The work is a triptych, painted in acrylic on watercolor paper that has been mounted on “snake board” (a dense, supposedly archival chip board) and glued to strainer bars. Before starting to paint, I spackled the edges and gesso’d the entire surfaces of all 3 parts of the triptych.
The deadline for delivery of works to be hung at the group show was Wednesday night, Thursday at the latest. I completed most of the work on the painting Sunday night as I listed to the president’s speech about killing Osama Bin Laden, and the sickening CNN live feed of our nation’s disgusting response. I was too depressed to continue painting, but didn’t have the time luxury of further procrastination, so I kept at it on shear will power. I was surprised, Monday morning, when I took another look at it and found it basically finished.
I painted the fig leafs Monday night. They were done on separate pieces of olive green matte paper and lightly affixed to the figures’ genitalia with archival matte hanging tape. I seriously considered painting “made you look”, in Hebrew, on Steve’s erection. However, I don’t know Hebrew and didn’t have time to do proper research.
“Adam and Steve” is available for purchase. The price is $1500. The entire triptych is 5’ high by 4’ wide. There is slight damage to the bottom edge of the “Adam” part of the triptych; some of the spackle seems to have gotten knocked loose. I can attempt to repair it if there are any interested purchasers.
“Adam and Steve” (and work by 15 other CAPS members) can be viewed in person at The Animation Guild’s 839 Gallery, located at 1105 N. Hollywood Way, Burbank, CA 91502, through May 27. The gallery will be open every Friday, 11:00 AM to 2 PM.
