I've Discovered Dick Dillin

I used to loath Dick Dillin's art when he was drawing Justice League of America, back in the late 60's/early 70's. I found his figure posing to be stilted, his compositions boring and static, not at all dynamic. Plus, he was inked mostly by Joe Giella, who blanded him out even more. Recently, however, I ran across some art jobs he did for House of Secrets and Tales of the Unexpected. (Unfortunately, I don't have the books in front of me, so I can't tell you which ones). I REALLY like these stories. The compositions are simple, dynamic in the extreme, almost like Dick is channelling Gil Kane. The inks, by Frank Giacoa, are crisp and sympathetic. The figure work is stilted as always, but it works in the context of the compostions. I'm in love.
